MAMACLAY - ASATO ‘OHANA
We wanted to gift the Asato ‘Ohana with a special day filled with joy and meaning, especially for Ele, whose creative spirit shines in everything she does. Though she works in a school, her heart is in creating, so we planned a fun-filled day that reflected her passions. It all started with a pottery workshop, giving her the chance to create with her hands. Afterward, the family enjoyed lunch and a family photoshoot before being surprised with heartfelt gifts from the community, including earrings, handmadebags, a lei po‘o, sweet treats, and letters from her church ‘ohana, and more. Her husband and son also received t-shirts, and as a special touch, they were gifted a custom caricature/anime-style drawing of their wedding photo printed on a giant canvas drawn by an aspiring young artist.
After the gift-giving, the family let loose at Break and Anger, first smashing things in the rage room, then getting messy in the paint splatter room, where they created art with paint guns. To end the day on a perfect note, they shared a special dinner together. It was incredible to witness their joy, laughter, and the love poured into this day by so many magic makers. We’re beyond grateful for the chance to bless the Asato family with a memorable ‘Ohana Fun Day. For more of Ele’s story, scroll below.
“A year ago, life took an unexpected and deeply challenging turn, yet through every hardship, faith remained at the center. In December 2023, during a family trip to Seattle and Canada, I noticed an abnormality in my right breast. Fear crept in, especially since I had never had a mammogram before. Upon returning home, I scheduled an appointment, which led to further tests and, ultimately, a devastating diagnosis - Her2 triple-positive breast cancer. The news shattered me, leaving me scared, angry, and questioning, but I turned to God for strength. Though the fertility process was a heartbreaking disappointment, I held onto the belief that God would bring purpose to my pain. Despite the trials, my husband and I shared a beautiful, rain-blessed wedding in April 2024, a testament to love and faith prevailing even in the darkest times.
The months that followed were grueling, eight-hour chemotherapy sessions, relentless side effects, and an emotional battle like no other. Yet, I clung to scripture, sharing my journey to uplift others, and found unexpected blessings in the support of my husband, son, family, and prayer warriors. In August, I underwent an extensive lumpectomy, and though the surgery was longer than expected, the cancerous lymph nodes were successfully removed and radiation treatment followed. By God's grace, I healed enough to enjoy my honeymoon in Japan, a symbol of triumph after so much pain. Looking back, I see God’s perfect timing in every step - the unwavering support of loved ones, and the connections forged with fellow warriors. Though my journey was filled with trials, I trust that God is not finished, and His purpose for me is greater than I could ever imagine.
I wanted to extend my sincerest gratitude to Ililani Foundation for organizing such a well-structure and memorable Family Fun Day. The event was not only a smooth experience but also filled with moments that we will cherish.
A special thank you to all the Magic Makers whose efforts truly made the day unforgettable. From the activities to the atmosphere, every detail was thoughtfully planned and brought to life, creating a vibrant and joyous occasion for my family to enjoy together. We are deeply appreciative of all the hard work that went into making the day so special. Thank you once again for this remarkable event.
If you’d like to support towards the future families in Hawaii while they are going through cancer treatment, please consider giving to Ililani Foundation so they can bless many more families.” Ele Asato, March 2025
